It’s Not the 4th of July…

My first phrase as a kid was “I do it myself”.

If you know me at ALL, this probably doesn’t come as a surprise.
I mean, c’mon!
See how good I was at getting toilet paper? I was a pro!

I definitely understand the whole “I might as well do it if it’s going to get done right” mentality.
Because oftentimes, it’s true…right?

When Michael and I first got married, I had this beautiful idea of my spotless apartment, dinner on the table, and me with my makeup perfect—all after a full day of work.

I was very particular…about how the towels were folded, how the laundry was done, how the kitchen was cleaned…it worked for the most part. He was either a very willing participant (probably because he didn’t want to hear me gripe about it anymore), or I would just do it myself…because “You’re not doing it right”.

It was a beautiful time (HA!). I was still fairly in control and independent—and could manage what I wanted to when I wanted to…

And then came Abigail—the most precious, beautiful, time-consuming gift I’ve ever received. Two months later I started classes.

And it was here that I realized, I can’t do it myself…

That I have to be DEPENDENT ON OTHER PEOPLE (*GASP*)

Because you know what? I CAN’T DO IT ALL….which is exactly what being so independent forces you to do…to do it all yourself…

Sure. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil 4:13)
I get it. I live by it.

But a LOT of times, He sends PEOPLE to strengthen you.

I NEED my husband.
I NEED my family.
I NEED my friends.

…and so do you.
So get over yourself. Realize it. And let someone help.

(Yes, I’m talking to me, too)…

  1. Girl, you are singin’ my song! …and making me feel guilty about not keeping up with my blog as well as you have so far! haha

Know you’ve got a silent cheer squad behind you in addition to all the wonderful people who get to be a part of your life every day. You’re an inspiration to so many, Steph. 🙂

    • Haha well I’m glad you like it! And thank you so much for the encouragement 🙂 I miss you being around at all of the events here! Oh yea…and I imagine this thing is probably going to slow down a bit after Spring Break is over. We’ll see!

    • 🙂 Yea….I think it’s a hard concept for driven people…I’m still really bad about it. Not AS bad…haha but it’s all a process.
