Do It Anyway

I couldn’t really think of anything to say today. When that happens, there is usually something that someone else has said that needs to be said again, and I should stop rambling–kind of like the whole “80-20 Rule“.
(Get used to me saying redundant things like that, because I love it.)

Most of you have probably seen this somewhere.
We have a plaque thing hanging in our hallway that I read often. (See the proof?)
Different things stand out on different days, but all of it is so good and so true.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

– Dr. Kent Keith, adapted by Mother Theresa

I’m pretty sure most of us in medical school have to live by this statement everyday.
“Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.”

Which applies to you the most?

What a statement. Forgiveness is just so powerful. I think this applies not only to those we interact with, but ourselves as well. We have to forgive ourselves for being unreasonable, irrational and self-centered. It’s amazing some days that God will forgive me of those things; imagine what it would be like if we could forgive ourselves and other of that hefty list. Beautiful post.

    • Thank you. I agree. And forgiveness applies to everyone…everywhere. We all need to forgive others, AS WELL as ourselves. I think sometimes we forget that. Good thoughts!
