Doing It Myself: Words of Love

Michael and I are having our 3rd summer marriage/wedding anniversary celebration.

Apparently, people who have blazed the marriage trail before us were right. Year 3 can be a bit of a hill. They say year 7 comes with some “transitioning”, too.

So, we have taken some great advice, and are (again) reading “The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman.

We had both read it before, but it’s true. Life changes. People change. And it’s full of good reminders.

Michael is a really big “Words of Affirmation” person. It might sound easy enough, but I am not exactly the most verbally encouraging person on the planet.

So I needed to get creative (and I can because it’s summer).

Yet another Pinterest project conquered, too. Not bad for one day.

Here’s what I used, plus a pair of scissors and a dry erase marker.

I took the glass of out of the frame and traced it onto the gift bag where I thought it would look best.

I didn’t know it before I started, but the waxy kind of gift bag was ingenious, because I could stick and re-stick the stickers if I got them crooked.

I put my still slightly crooked note in the frame, and added a little bling that I found at my local crafty store.

Voila! A message board that I can change as often as I can to give my hubby some much deserved encouragement in the way he receives it best.

I’m thinking that I might do the same when my sweet girl gets a little older. It could be a good way to practice kind words, showing love, reading, and writing all at once!

  1. Very clever! And thoughtful of your husband’s specific needs. After some love language stuff from a study we did, I determined that my husband’s love languages are 1) extreme privacy and 2) never asking for help. He laughed – and agreed – when I told him.

    • Thank you! I just tweaked someone else’s idea! Gotta’ love the internet!
Haha sounds like you need to build him a man cave with all sorts of projects for him to do alone 🙂
